Kosmos Foster Care was founded by Johan and Ronel Riekert in May 2003 after years of experience in adoption procedures and being board members of Child Welfare, Vanderbijlpark. The establishment of the home was motivated by the need of care and shelter for destitute and neglected children and babies.
Children are always the victims of economic struggle and household problems, often to the extent where children’s organizations or welfare need to intervene. Kosmos was registered as a private Foster Care Home by the Department of Social Development in October 2004.
Kosmos was privately run and funded and their xistence was therefore dependent on fundraising and public relation activities. In order to provide stability and security to their children and the ever increasing demands to take care of larger number of children Johan and Ronel reached out for help and a group of motivated people came together with a the objective to establish a foundation.
During 2011 the process was started to formally register a Child and Youth Care foundation to increase and enlarge Kosmos’s current Child Welfare objectives and the Jabes Foundation was registered as a Section 21 Company and a Non Profit Organisation with the Department of Social Development.
The Jabes Foundation seeks to provide a home where children of all ages can grow up in a family environment and strives to make a positive difference in the lives of these children.
Every child in our home becomes a member of our family and is introduced into the community where they are loved, educated and protected, whether temporary or permanent. We strive to create a public awareness of the needs and rights of children, as well as the responsibility of organizations, and to create a nurturing environment for children. This includes a close liaison with Child Welfare and other organizations.
We thank God for the inspiration and grace received to establish the Jabes Foundation, and we trust that He will continue to inspire the hearts of His people to love and support our children.
