THE PROMISE CENTRE in Mozambique with LIFE Christian Foundation

The Promise Centre is a project of Life Christian Foundation. We are a small children's centre and we take care of orphaned, abandoned, HIV and street children from very poor backgrounds. We are a small community of Christians who are dedicated to help children in need. We live at present in rented accommodation, in a place called Matola 30 minutes from Maputo city centre in Mozambique. We also rent three other small houses in Matola, one for our office and storage space, one for our head educators and their family to live in and the other for our missionary couple.

Our aim of the centre is to give new hope in desperate situations and to give the children we receive a new place to call home with a loving Christian family in which to belong.

We give new opportunities for each child and worker alike to enable them to develop to their fullest potential, and grow in self esteem and their God given gifts in order to live out their Call and destiny God has given them.

The Promise centre is a place of restoration and healing from past hurts and a place where each child and worker can grow strong and healthy, emotionally, physically and spiritually in a loving and secure Family environment.

We help each child to either return to school or in some cases start a school education for the very 1st time, this is of course a vital key for their future. We help each child to get a birth certificate and documents they need in order to do this. Two of our kids are receiving special sponsorship for them to attend a private English speaking school which is such a wonderful opportunity for them.

Where possible we also work to form and maintain relationships with any existing family the children have by doing home visits for each child twice a year and where necessary we try to help their families with their basic needs. We encourage family visits both ways and welcome them into our Promise Centre family. We ensure each child and worker have medical check ups and receive necessary vaccines. We treat any medical problem and health issue that they may have, in order to obtain maximum health.

The centre is also a place to celebrate LIFE, and enjoy each day to the full.

We enjoy having birthday parties for each child, it is often the first time they have ever celebrated their special day with presents and a party and not forgetting a big chocolate cake!!

We also like to plan social activities including; our yearly Christmas party, Special Children’s Day Mozambican celebration on 1 st June, day outings to museums and to the zoo and beach trips for all to enjoy. Our youth and workers have had many opportunities to attend church conferences in South Africa, and the younger ones go to summer holiday camp in Maputo.

We encourage and give opportunities to learn and develop new skills as well.

We have many regular activities running at the centre including; guitar lessons, African dance fusion, sewing classes, arts and crafts, singing lessons, youth night, discipleship classes, computer classes, athletics, play therapy. Often many of these are made possible from sponsorships and donations and volunteers who come in to do the activities on a regular basis.

At present we have 20 children who live in the centre and another 5 children who come daily. We serve at least another 20 children on a regular basis in the community providing for many of their needs and involving them in many of the programs and events at the Promise centre.

We have a total of 14 Mozambican employees; 7 full time and 2 part time staff/educators, which help to form part of this loving family. The staff works on a Rota bases to give the daily care for our kids, cleaning, cooking, washing etc, and acting as loving parents. The two head educators come in daily. We also have 1 full time administrator, 1 full time driver, and 2 part time teachers everyday to help the kids in their school studies to ensure they pass their grades and to find their strengths and weaknesses, and 1 sewing teacher twice a week. In addition we are also fully committed to help our staff with their personal/social needs.

We are also caring for a family in the community, a widow and her 2 children. We have just built them a new house to live in and we provide a monthly basic food package and help with the children’s education. They form part of our extended family and we provide on-going support and friendship iin their times of need. We also pay the monthly rent of another of our workers who is a widow with three children.

The other major part of who we are of course CHURCH which we have every Sunday at the centre. Our aim is simply to love the people and show Jesus to them and disciple them into their own intimate walk with the Lord and give a place for the people to worship and share life and support each other in their daily walk.

Our longer term goals at present are to:

  • Build a permanent children's centre, we have already required the land and are currently raising funds for the building project.
  • Get each child an individual sponsorship fund up and running for their present and future needs.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIPS - TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERNCE IN THESE PRECIOUS LIVES.
