Transition House - House of Blessings

In April 2009 we opened up our first transition house, this is now accommodating 4 young men and one missionary who overseas them. As the children grow up at the Promise centre and become young adults our aim is to see them grow further still, and gradually make the “transition” into adult life, learning and developing as many life skills as possible, in order for them to finally leave and graduate on.

Our hope is that they will be equipped both practically and emotionally, ready to become interdependent members of the community, in order to confidentially start living their own lives and peruse their life dreams, thus enabling them to contribute to their own community and society in general.  We encourage and help each individual to set life goals,

incorporating a plan and vision for their own future. Where possible are aim is to commit to each of these young adults creating and providing opportunities, to give them the necessary tools to assist and help facilitate them on their life journey.

We believe education is one of the biggest key, to enable each individual to be able to make informed choices for their future careers and callings. Therefore much support is given so that each individual can first finish school and then go on to peruse higher education of their choice.

Practically at the Transition house they learn to become more independent in every way, cooking, cleaning, food shopping, washing their clothes, budgeting and paying house bills and all the other things you need to run a house. Many of the young adults will finish school late for their age, often as late as 25yrs of age due to not having the adequate support in earlier years, this makes it difficult for them to start contributing financially to their own lives and start to plan for their future.

Our aim is therefore during their time in the Transition House to assist them in finding a job or apprenticeship work so they can start to contribute financially. This may mean they continue their studies at night school.

Meet our first four boys to graduate on from the Promise Centre and have this opportunity to live in our 1st Transition house, which we gave the name the “House of Blessings”
